History: over yonder!
Appearance: ayy
Personality:
Kido is, to the Mekakushi Dan, many things. As the de facto leader of a ragtag group of teenagers that use their superhuman abilities to help others, she is motherly, shy, and calm, but also straightforward, harsh and blunt. But as you may have been able to predict, she has had many experiences that have shaped her personality into the girl that we are introduced to in Mekakushi Code.

With the way that Kido presents herself, it wouldn't be hard to assume that she is your token kuudere that is ever-present in Japanese canons - quiet, apathetic, and harsh to most people that approach her. There is a reason to this - when she was younger, she was frequently ignored by her siblings due to her status as an illegitimate child of her wealthy father and his mistress. This gave her a desire to literally fade out of existence, which is reflected in the power she receives upon entering the Kagerou Daze. As she grows up, she leaves every trace of having lived a high-class life behind her, even eventually adapting "chuunibyou" (8th grader's syndrome), which is essentially a fancy way of saying that she feels that she needs to be a leader driven with purpose, act aloof, and not rely on anyone. However, this is largely used as a front - after spending time with her, it's easy to see that Kido can be very friendly when she needs to be. Her smiles are soft, her tone is welcoming, and any previous assumptions of a scary-looking girl can be reconsidered in a heartbeat.

To see a glimpse of the soft-hearted girl underneath the hood, you don't need to look hard. Kido's more timid nature comes out easily when she's in the presence of her friends and "family". Her adoptive brother Kano knows exactly how to tease and push her buttons, and just the notion of having Momo join the Mekakushi Dan and become her friend is enough to make her blush. Kido simply wants the best for those she cares about, while fulfilling the task of becoming a "hero" that her late adoptive sister Ayano left for her. As such, she has a strong sense of justice and responsibility towards others as the leader and "first member" of the Dan. This responsibility manifests itself not only through worrying about the other members, but as acting like a mother to them. As many of the members are orphans or have one parent deceased (including herself), she knows how important this can be.

However, this isn't to say that Kido doesn't have her immature quirks that make her unique. She may give off a cool air to strangers, but she has a very soft spot for cute things (especially cats, as seen in some anthology stories) and can be scared to the point of passing out by trivial things like amusement park haunted houses and road mirages a hot day. She also have a bit of a short temper, which manifests itself the most when she is with her adoptive siblings, Kano and Seto. She frequently hits Kano whenever he annoys her and negate his eye power to make sure he isn't lying, while she was adamant in training Seto to speak in a more casual manner.

All in all, it is nearly impossible to take Kido at face value and claim that you can understand her from just the assumptions made from her appearance. While she is a girl with a troubled past that can tune the world out with an upturned hoodie and her iPod, her welcoming personality, ability to lead, and deep concern for her friends are what make her the perfect leader for the Mekakushi Dan and keep her visible in a world that she had once feared disappearing from.

Abilities: Like the other members of the Mekakushi Dan, Kido has what is known as an "eye power". Her power is the "Concealing Eyes", which stems from her desire to disappear when she was younger. In a nutshell, this means that she has the ability to render herself and anything within two meters of herself invisible - however, this can be broken if someone visible makes physical contact with her. Her power can also be used to make someone "unrecognizable" as opposed to being unable to be noticed.

While her power is in effect, her eyes turn red.
